When do you need our services
A blocked drain should be attended to upon first signs that there might be an issue.
Calling Plumstar will save you time and money especially if the drain is only partially blocked, allowing the blockage to be quickly cleared before the problem has time to escalate, becomes non-operational, or damages surrounding property areas.
Additionally, and separate to the sewage system is the property storm water system.
It is important that you request the hydro-jet, or jetter, if you have a blocked stormwater drains.
This is the best drain cleaner to be used in this situation as it uses high pressure water and will remove any stubborn blockage along with any dirt, leaves or silt from the stormwater pipes.
Conventional electric eel drain machines are not suitable for this application.
As our hydro-jets are trailer mounted they are not carried to every job, so please advise upon your booking if you have a blocked stormwater drain so we can save you time and money by bringing the hydro-jet to your location.
Blocked stormwater drains, blocked downpipes, or blocked surface water grates can also pose a real problem themselves during periods of heavy storms and rain when the water simply has nowhere to go.
Hydro jetting drain clearing is the way to go to rectify these faults.
Signs of a blocked sewage or storm water drainage system include;

Equipment information
Electric Drain Cleaning
Electric drain machines or electric eels are carried in each of our work vehicles.
These are more commonly used machines for clearing a toilet blockage or blocked sewer drains.
It involves a steel flexible rod with a cutter on the end run by an electric motor that cuts & removes tree roots or any other obstacle in the drain.
One of the downfalls with these machines is they do not have the length of rods to reach blockages that exceed 75 feet away. This is where hydro-jets are ideal as they have double the reach of electric machines. Electric eels are far better at cutting out larger tree roots as they have the strength of a motor pushing a cable with a sharp cutter on it, which often easily cuts and removes large roots.
Hydro-Jet Drain Cleaning
Hydro-jets, or jetters as they are also known as are extremely effective at clearing both sewer and stormwater drains.
They are also great for clearing grease blockages in drains as well as cutting out and removing tree roots.
The hydro-jets we use are trailer mounted units and run at a pressure of 5000 psi, which is strong enough to cut off a finger.
Hydro-jet pumps high pressure water out of the end of a small nozzle attached to a hose, and is placed into the drain and self-propels itself through the pipe blasting through any obstacles, such as stubborn tree roots, that are in its way.
An advantage of the hydro-jet is it is able to reach blockages that are further along the pipes than what a conventional electric eel drain machine can reach.
This often saves on costly excavation methods, as the drain is cleared, and an inspection point is not having to be excavated, for the electric machine to gain access to a closer point to the blockage.
We use jetters regularly on kitchen sinks, especially when they are full of grease, as the hydro-jet easily cuts through the grease and fats to allow the pipe to flow freely again. The hydro-jet is especially efficient for cleaning sinks and drains in commercial properties where thick build up’s often occur.
Commonly, the hydro-jet cleans stubborn drain blockages far better than the electric eel drain machines and is often used for more serious blockages.
Sewer Drain Camera
We have a number of drain cameras, or CCTV cameras as they are known in the industry. This equipment can be placed down your drain pipe to see what is causing your blocked drains.
The drain camera will clearly identify if any damage is present within the drain system.
This will assist in determining why the drain has blocked up, or continues to block up and allow your attending plumber to find the exact location of the blockage to decide on the most effective repair method.
We find that tree roots seem to be the most common cause of blocked drains as they penetrate into the pipes and soon grow to a large mass. Collapsed pipes, misaligned pipes and foreign objects in the drain are all other problems we identify when we use the CCTV camera. In some cases, drain problems can be ongoing and require further assistance, this is where one of our CCTV drain cameras can help! Our sewer drain cameras can pin point where there may be a misaligned pipe, broken pipe, root mass or other foreign obstacle in the drain a DVD video copy is provided along with a report to all customers for their reference.
Sewer drain camera Locating services
Plumstar has locating equipment which works in conjunction with the CCTV camera equipment.
This unit works like a wand over the top of the camera head, locating faults within your drain system.
Once a fault is visually located using CCTV camera equipment we can located, pin point the exact location and depth (highly accurately within a 5 cent size piece) as so we can advise upon required repairs being dig up and rectification.
